Since I moved to Australia from South Africa, I have always wanted to live at college to make friends and live a more independent life.

Joining the St Thomas More College community was one of the best choices I have made and has allowed me to not only make friends that I will keep for life but also helped me to make connections with other people also studying Engineering. I am constantly exposed to opportunities that improve my leadership and broaden my knowledge of various topics.

The sporting community at Tommy is a great way for me to keep active and have fun with my friends every week. The convenience of living so close to UWA is an extra perk that helps me get more involved with the university and be more up-to-date with the events they run.

Moving away from home and the community of Albany’s UWA campus was daunting. However, Tommy More’s welcoming community exceeded all expectations and erased any of my doubts.

I was quickly introduced to the spirited college culture and exposed to many community events and opportunities that provided a great chance to get away from the study for a while and enjoy time with mates.

The great thing about the College is the ability for everyone to experience Tommy in a unique way. The college experience is extremely personal, and you can choose to become as involved as you like. With such a broad range of sporting and social events you are sure to find a crowd you feel comfortable with.

Moving to St Thomas More College on my own from a very small town, I didn’t have many expectations. I was thinking it would just be a place for me to live while I completed my degree. I could not have been more wrong!

I have made strong connections with so many people and have had countless opportunities to enhance my education. Coming from Darwin, I moved to Tommy knowing no one in the slightest. It was one of the most nerve-wracking experiences, but an experience I am beyond grateful for. Throughout my time here at college, I have developed so many interpersonal skills and built confidence in knowing what I am capable of as a person. Not only does Tommy provide so much support for my academic studies, but the social and leadership skills I have been exposed to have helped me so much in everyday life setting me up for my future career.

When I moved from the other side of the world to Australia for school, I was faced with a number of challenges. These included finding a place to live, integrating myself into the culture of a new country, adapting to and overcoming academic difficulties, and so much more. Answers to all of these obstacles were found at Tommy's! I am able to live in a spacious one-bedroom apartment, and our designated post-graduate building allows for the perfect blend of privacy for focused studying, while shared spaces, meals, and organised events provide opportunities to socialise and build friendships.

The environment at Tommy's is special. Residents care and look out for each other, while each contributing to the community in a unique way that helps us have a diversified culture. Tommy is one big friend group, and branching out has never been easier. The college culture is fantastic—there are so many social events to further friendships, yet there's an amazing balance with study.
